![]() Reconfiguring Energy Trigger for greater Resilience Do you ever experience a low point that diminishes your energy? Before we begin to blame circumstances, environment or the people for our drained energy, let us take a closer look at learning to reconfigure the most important resource, our ENERGY Trigger. To understand energy, we must first recognize it in the context of Emotional Intelligence. Emotions are Energy in Motion. When our energy is diminished, we feel uninspired or emotionally low and when our energy is elevated we feel motivated or on top of the world. Emotions are a great source of power. When we master emotions, we can move mountains and when we become slave to our emotions, our foot can get nailed to the floor. Wouldn’t it be great if we had an energy trigger switch that could be turned on or off based on the amount of energy required in the moment to move mountains? What if I were to tell you there is such a switch, and furthermore, to make best use of the switch, all you have to do is unlearn the way you relate to emotions. The ‘energy draining’ feeling is the alarm that goes off and we run away from it or hit the snooze button. Have you considered what the alarm is pointing towards? Be it the emotions of worry, fear, sadness or anger, it is triggered by a memory. The intensity of memory varies for each individual depending upon the level of attachment to security/safety, power/control or esteem/recognition. Let us take a closer look at the following triggers: 1. The level of attachment to self-esteem can trigger the alarm of shame, as feeling of rejection arises at a slight hint of being ignored. 2. The level of attachment to being in control can trigger the alarm of failure, as the feeling of powerlessness arises at a slight hint of things going awry. 3. The level of attachment to safety (from unanticipated events) can trigger the alarm of insecurity, as the feeling of loss arises at a slight hint of change. Remember the alarm is set off by the attachment to the memory of past experience. We can take simple steps towards reconfiguring our memory cells to restore energy, vitality and inner balance. The reconfiguration begins with self-reflection that helps us gain focus and clarity. When we begin to take the time out to reflect, the triggers become apparent and easy to handle. Awareness of triggers is the key component for resilience that aids in managing the pressures and stresses of life. Let us take a closer look at using reflection to RECONFIGURE energy triggers:
When we take the time to reflect, slowly and surely we begin to undo the false memory attachments. In today’s world, reflection can be rather difficult with constant distraction of cell phones, e-mails and the never-ending things to do. However, the amount of clarity and focus gained from reflection bestows the gift of revitalized energy required to deal with the ongoing tasks, thus, creating more time to do things you love! Remember reflection is not about how your spouse, children, the economy, the employees or the company are doing. Reflection is about your inner world, how you are feeling in this moment. Bring your attention inward and reflect on the inner triggers. Taking the time to understand and face the inner world of feelings is NOT the soft stuff; it requires courage, dedication and the desire to create the change you want to see in the world. Furthermore, awareness of feelings is essential in creating and maintaining the energy we need to succeed. Who would have thought that an energy drainer carries the seed of positive change? Reconfigure your energy trigger and strengthen your resiliency! |
